“It’s a metal insect!”
Well…close. You might have seen or heard of the work called Metal Insets; often the children will call them Metal Insects.
What is the importance of this work?
The Metal inset is a material that helps prepare the hand for writing. The presentations of metal insets increase with difficulty, starting by simply tracing the frame, followed by tracing the inset, and ending with creating a design.
Important facts to know about the metal insets:
-The metal inset helps to strengthen and refine muscular control, to help prepare for letter formation.
-The material aids in pencil pressure and in control of hand.
-The variety of colors and shapes invite independent creativity and sensorial integration.
-The shapes help to lay the foundation for future work in Geometry.
- A metal inset is far more purposeful than an metal insect.
