Kerry Merkel

Kerry Merkel

Kerry graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.  Soon after graduation, Kerry discovered the Montessori Method of teaching and subsequently completed the year long Montessori certification program.  Along with her positive attitude, Kerry brings her affection for painting and photography into the classroom.  Both Kerry and her sister Kelly share a love for reaching children; however, each have their own method for establishing a special connection with each child.  Outside the classroom Kerry enjoys family time and travling with husband Tim and daughter Darby.

Kelly graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in History, then went on to receive her Montessori Certification.  Kelly brings the globe to life with her passion for geography and history.  Kelly and sister Kerry have an unspoken synergy which enables them to execute the demands of the classroom with grace and energy. When not teaching, Kelly, husband Ben, and dog Lola, can be found enjoying the mountains and time with friends and family. 

John David Cleveland

John David Cleveland

John David attended Northeast Louisiana University studying Early Childhood Education and Psychology. He moved to Colorado in 1994 after working eight summers at a summer camp West of Boulder. He worked at Boulder Montessori School for four years and went through Montessori training during his fourth year. Then he moved to Fairview Montessori where he stayed for seven years, meeting Kerry and Kelly. John David brings music to the classroom. He has been playing the violin since he was three and has been singing professionally for years, even recording a song on a children’s cd. When not playing the violin, singing, or teaching children, John David enjoys biking, skiing, hiking, movies, live theater, live music and reading.

Kathi Imperi

Kathi is a certified Montessori teacher, Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN), and is director qualified with the State of Colorado.  In her 15 years as a Montessori educator, Kathi has owned and operated two Montessori schools; one in Singapore and the other in Boulder, CO.

Kathi and her husband Mike have been married for 36 years; have three daughters and one granddaughter.  Mike is currently headmaster at Alexander Dawson School in Las Vegas; the sister school to Alexander Dawson in Boulder.  Kathi loves Blue Mountain Montessori so much that she splits her time between Colorado and Nevada, where Mike is. 

 

Vandana Barton

Vandana Barton has been providing loving guidance to children since 2000.  She began assisting children in a Montessori classroom in 2006, which lead her to receive  Montessori Teacher training for ages three to six from Montessori Education Center of the Rockies in Boulder, Colorado.  Vandana uses her skills as a certified yoga teacher to create a peaceful environment where children can learn about themselves and the world around them.  Vandana also loves to dance, cook, hike, play her harp and enjoy her home in the Boulder mountains with her husband David and cat.

 

Catherine Grodahl

Catherine hails from England and worked in advertising in London for 21 years.  She met her husband, an American, in England, who persuaded her to move to Colorado in 2005.  She learnt all about Montessori when her daughter attended Blue Mountain for 3 years.   Catherine loves the Montessori method of teaching children so much, she decided to get certified to teach it herself.  She is now an intern at Blue Mountain and looks forward to putting the theory she has learned into practice.  Apart from her favorite occupation - spending time with her husband Andy and daughter Sassa - Catherine's interests are travelling, cooking, painting, gardening and she particularly enjoys doing arts and crafts with children
